PalmaThe Feixina monolith in Palma appeared this Saturday with various anti-fascist graffiti, amid controversy over the call for a rally planned for this Sunday, May 24. The messages 'Racism, fascism neither now nor ever' and 'Never again' can be read on the monolith's facade, accompanied by an anarchist symbol.

The action comes after the far-right group Núcleo Nacional announced a rally in La Feixina against the possible demolition of the monument, linked to the application of the Democratic Memory Law. The collective, of neo-Nazi inspiration, defends the monolith dedicated to the fallen of the cruiser Baleares and accuses the Spanish government of wanting to "erase history".

The call has generated a strong response from anti-fascist groups in Mallorca, who have warned of the "openly neo-Nazi" nature of Núcleo Nacional and have called for rejecting their presence in Palma. They also recall that the group has been involved in various acts of vandalism and hate messages in recent months, including graffiti on the bust of Aurora Picornell and in natural spaces in Mallorca.

The Feixina monument has been the subject of political and social debate in Palma for years. The new escalation of tension comes on the eve of a mobilization that could reactivate the confrontation between ultra-right groups and anti-fascist collectives in the city.
