Anxiety, loneliness, and depression: the main reasons for calling the Hope Hotline
The entity has served 1,682 people in the first half of 2025.

PalmThe Telephone of Hope has served 1,682 people, 47 for suicidal reasons. The average is nine people per day, 20% less than the same period in 2024. The main problems that have motivated contacting the Telephone of Hope have been anxiety, loneliness, and depression. This was explained this Monday by the president of the Telephone of Hope in the Balearic Islands, Maria Antònia Mateu, and the spokesperson for the association, Lino Salas, who took the opportunity to present the poster and slogan ("You can choose another future") for the International Day for the Prevention of Suicide (September 10), according to the ag.
Salas detailed that during the first half of the year, 103 calls have been made through the chat service, which has been especially targeted to people between 12 and 35 years old. The rest, with a wider age range, have been made by telephone (971461112).
The report also details that 47 calls to the Telephone of Hope have been for suicidal reasons, 10 fewer than in 2024. Regarding the causes of the decline, the organization points out that there are increasingly more resources for this issue, which is also more normalized and discussed in family settings.
The spokesperson explained that many people with anxiety contact them for existential and life-plan problems or crises of values, and also for eating disorders.
As for children, many contact them with feelings of loneliness, often motivated by bullying, anxiety problems, and self-harm. Many do not contact them directly, but the Telephone of Hope appears while they are performing other searches.
