Baleària appeals to the courts over vehicle entry restrictions in Ibiza: "It violates equality rights."
He has submitted several reports in which he claims that the regulations have no real impact.

PalmThe shipping companyBaleariahas filed a lawsuit against the Ibiza Council's March 28th resolution on the Law on Vehicle Traffic Control on the island and has requested the annulment of the restriction. In the document, the shipping company asks the judge to raise a question of constitutionality, considering that this regulation "violates the fundamental rights of equality and mobility."
The company maintains, in a statement, that the measure discriminates between non-resident vehicle owners and non-resident vehicle owners, unjustifiably limiting traffic within Spanish territory. Furthermore, it emphasizes that it is an "ineffective and unfair" initiative, which represents a serious economic burden for maritime transport, while not verifiably reducing the island's ecological footprint.
The lawsuit is based on a report prepared by doctors Esteban Morelle Hungría and María Luisa Cuerda Arnau, from the Jaume I University, and another from the consultancy Meteoclim.
According to the former, the restriction approved by the Consell is "an example of greenwashing "regulatory", which projects an image of environmental commitment but lacks real effectiveness. For the popular shipping company, the measure does not affect the main source of congestion, which is the resident vehicle fleet, and does not provide for environmental control mechanisms or distinguish between polluting and zero-emission vehicles.
Likewise, according to scientists, the restriction "has no positive effects on either mobility or the environment"
In the coming days, Baleària will publish the reports included in the lawsuit and the economic effects of the measure, both in terms of the increase in the local vehicle fleet and traffic saturation and the impact on maritime transport.
