Balearic Islands on alert for extreme heat
Temperatures are expected to exceed 36 degrees.

PalmThe Spanish Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued a yellow alert for southern Mallorca and the island of Ibiza due to the high temperatures expected this week. According to the agency, highs could exceed 36 degrees Celsius (98 degrees Fahrenheit), and the risk of heat-related health problems is particularly high in coastal areas. Initially, the days of greatest risk are Tuesday and Wednesday, but the risk of the event continuing into the week is not ruled out.
In response to this incident, the 112 Emergency Service has activated Severity Index 0 (IG0) of the Meteobal Plan for high temperatures in Mallorca.
IG0 is activated when meteorological information indicates the imminence of an adverse event with danger to people and property. It refers to minor local phenomena that can be controlled with a rapid response and without causing damage.
