CalviâCalvià's lifeguards protested this Sunday with banners on different beaches in the municipality after they were unable to go on strike as they had called for, due to the 100% minimum services imposed by the City Council.

The Calvià Lifeguards Union explained that the 39 workers on the staff called for the mobilization had to work. Faced with this situation, they opted to make their demands visible with banners with messages such as 'Working with dignity is not a luxury', 'Stop precariousness in lifeguarding in Calvià', and 'We are not asking for privileges, we demand rights'. Some were also written in German so that tourists could understand the protest.

The general secretary of the organization, Ariel Gaunas, criticized the City Council's actions and regretted that it did not participate in the meeting called for Wednesday before the Arbitration and Mediation Court (TAMIB).

The lifeguards are demanding improvements in the service and in their working conditions. Among other issues, they denounce the deterioration of some watchtowers, problems with emergency communications, and errors in salary payments. They also consider the bathing accessibility service for people with reduced mobility, currently available on four of the eleven beaches in the municipality, to be insufficient.
