'Canamunt vs Canavall,' the Catalan card game with a touch of water and an all-powerful tourist.
It recreates the battle that pitted the two noble factions of Palma against each other in the 17th century, in a struggle suitable for all ages.

PalmThe selection of board games in Catalan is limited, especially when it comes to products created in the Balearic Islands. In this context, Canamunt vs Canavall, a card game that playfully recreates the famous battle that pitted the two noble factions of Palma against each other during the 17th century. "We make games to enter into national competitions, but we wanted to make our own, from our region, and we looked for a powerful, local theme," says Marc Salas, the game's designer, who prepared the game with illustrator Víctor Trufer. Canamunt vs Canavall is mainly a party In this game, among other activities, residents from all over Palma join one of the sides and participate in a water pistol war, emulating the violence of centuries past.
"It's a game in which everyone must take a position on one of the sides, and thus experience the game as if it were a real celebration," explains Salas. The game's characters are demons, some of them with names that refer to beloved characters and elements in Mallorcan culture. This is the case with the Demon of na Coca and the Demon of Siurell, among others. There is also a controversial character: the tourist, who has a special power. He has one more card than the rest of the players and can consider any participant in the game as an ally or rival, regardless of the side.
Attack, counterattack, and victory
If two people are playing, each has four cards; if there are more (up to five players maximum), it's three for one. The cards in play can be water cards. That is, for example, a Canamunt player pours a certain amount of water onto a Canavall player. The water is added to the second player's water counter, which can reach a maximum of 10 water points. If this number is reached, that player is eliminated. There are also cards that generate attack or defense effects, such as an umbrella (for protection) or a bucket full of water (for attack). Some cards are used to bathe the opponent, and others are used to dry yourself off if you've been bathed.
There's also the option that if one player attacks another, for example, with three water points, the second player can respond with a four-point card. This turns their defense into a more powerful attack. Unlike other games, where once there's a winner the game is over, in Canamunt vs Canavall There's a game as long as there are at least two opponents from opposing sides left.
The fact that up to five people can play opens the door to different war combinations: one from Canamunt against one from Canavall, two against two, or even all against everyone. For now, the game's creators are immersed in a fundraising process through Verkami to finance its production. Canamunt vs Canavall It's designed to be a game suitable for any occasion, as games last a maximum of 25 minutes. It's also open to a wide age range, as Marc Salas is a preschool teacher and has introduced details to make the game friendly for little ones.
