PalmThe Local Police of Palma is investigating a 46-year-old Spanish man for allegedly causing a traffic accident under the influence of alcohol, attempting to flee the scene, and uttering homophobic and racist insults against several witnesses. As reported this Tuesday by the municipal body, the man also displayed a swastika tattooed on his abdomen during the police intervention.

The events took place last Friday, around 6:10 PM, on the Vileta road. The 092 received a report alerting to a traffic accident and that several citizens were detaining the driver involved after he attempted to escape. According to witnesses, the suspect rear-ended a vehicle that was stopped at a red light and fled the scene. During his escape, he hit the curb of a roundabout, drove onto an island, and broke a vertical traffic sign.

One of the witnesses followed him and managed to take the car key, although the car continued to move a few meters until it finally stopped when it stalled. When the officers arrived at the scene, they observed that the driver was trying to flee. During the identification, the man spontaneously admitted that he did not have a driver's license and asked the police not to take it into account to avoid legal problems.

The Local Police later verified that the investigated person had never obtained a type B driving license and that his moped license had been revoked in 2014 after losing all points. Since then, he had not recovered his license because he had not completed the mandatory road safety course. The breathalyzer test gave a positive result of 0.55 milligrams of alcohol per liter of exhaled air, double the maximum permitted limit.

According to the Local Police, throughout the intervention, the man directed homophobic and racist comments at the people who had detained him and showed them a tattoo of a Nazi swastika on his abdomen. The vehicle was towed by the municipal tow service and taken to the impound lot. The police report has already been sent to the judicial authority.
