PalmaAra Més-Front Ampli has denounced the Sóller City Council before the Provincial Electoral Board of the Balearic Islands for the publication on municipal social networks of a video about the works at the Escolàpies. The coalition considers that the content could violate article 50 of the Organic Law of the General Electoral Regime (LOREG), which limits the institutional promotion of the actions of public authorities from the calling of an election.
The regulations prohibit during this period acts or communications financed by public authorities that make allusion to achievements or objectives attained, as well as the inaugurations of public works or services.
The complaint refers specifically to a video published by the City Council in which the rehabilitation works of the Escolàpies are shown. The publication explains a visit by representatives of the Sóller Music School and Friends of Music, accompanied by the Councilor for Culture and Heritage, Antònia Frau, to see the spaces they will occupy when the works are finished. The City Council had already reported on October 23 that the works are in the final phase.
Ara Més considers that the publication "calls into question the neutrality" that administrations must maintain during the electoral period and asks the Electoral Board to act "as soon as possible" to determine if the regulations have been violated.
The filing of the complaint does not imply that any infringement has been proven. It will be the Electoral Board that must now assess the content of the video and decide whether the City Council's publication complies or not with the limitations established by the LOREG. For the moment, there is no statement from the electoral body on the case.
