Changes at Sant Antoni de Manacor following the death of the young man in the collapse
The first dance before the audience and the official reception have been cancelled. Given the young man's connection to the Manacor Municipal Band, the band has decided that the procession of the float will be conducted in silence.
PalmThe Manacor City Council expressed its deepest condolences on Thursday for the death of an 18-year-old resident of the municipality, who lost his life early this morning due to the collapse of the roof of his house while he was sleeping, on Sant Francesc street.
In light of this tragic loss, the mayor of Manacor has called an emergency meeting with the spokespeople of the municipal groups, the Sant Antoni Board and the Manacor Music Band to agree on how the municipality should institutionally express its condolences within the framework of the Sant Antoni festivities, which begin this Friday.
As a result of this meeting, a difficult but consensual decision has been reached: not to cancel the festivities, but to adapt their protocol as a sign of respect and mourning for the family of the deceased young man. In this regard, it has been decided to suspend the official reception held by the town council at the Sant Antoni Patronage, where the devils and musicians will perform in the Hall. Instead, the group will depart from Cal Baciner and proceed to the Manacor Town Hall, where the musicians will play two pieces while the devils remain still at street level, as a sign of respect. This year, the group will not go up to the Town Hall, and there will be no official reception at the Sant Antoni Patronage for the group, authorities, and the Youth Council. Following this, the devils and Sant Antoni will dance in front of the Town Hall and continue their procession through the streets and squares of the town.
Connection with the Music Band
Furthermore, given the young man's connection to the Manacor Municipal Band, of which he was a member and where he played the tenor saxophone, and with great sadness, the Band has decided that the procession of the float departing from the Town Hall at 7:00 p.m. will be conducted in silence, with a drum roll, as a sign of mourning, until the funeral. This Thursday at 7:30 p.m., a minute of silence will also be observed before the performance of the play 'Ai Quaquín, que has venido de delgado!' at the Auditorium. On behalf of the entire City Council, the Mayor of Manacor extends his deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the young man, as well as to the entire Manacor Municipal Band community, which is deeply saddened by this loss. The Manacor City Council asks for the public's understanding regarding these changes to the festival protocol, adopted responsibly, respectfully, and sensitively during this time of mourning.
