"Condemned for defending Mallorca": The GOB seeks support to pay legal costs to oppose the airport expansion.
The environmental group launches a fundraising campaign after losing its lawsuit against Aena.

PalmThe GOB has launched the "Condemned for Defending Mallorca" campaign to cover the legal costs and other expenses (€5,000) to oppose the expansion of Palma Airport. Its objective is to cover the legal costs resulting from the ruling against the entity for the appeal filed in 2020 against the Son Sant Joan expansion works, promoted by Aena. The campaign website is now live..
The lawsuit, which was based on the lack of an updated environmental study and the claim that the works increased operational capacity despite being presented as "functional improvements," was rejected by the High Court of Justice of the Balearic Islands (TSJIB). The ruling finds that the GOB did not challenge specific administrative acts, but rather conducted a "general inquisition." The entity now awaits the cost appraisal, which is expected to be high.
Sources from the GOB assure that this legal defeat is, in reality, "a collective call to action" in the face of a tourism model that has surpassed all limits. "Defending the territory is not a crime," they affirm, and they demand the right of citizens to oppose projects that increase pressure on an already collapsed territory.
The environmental organization points out that the airport expansion means more flights and greater tourist influx, at a time when public services are strained, access to housing is critical, and environmental degradation is increasing.
