PalmMÁS por Palma has denounced the approval this Tuesday by the Palma Urban Planning Management Council of the building permit for the construction of a new building at 3 Triana Street, in the Son Espanyolet neighborhood. "This act will represent another direct attack on the city's architectural and cultural heritage," denounced Neus Truyol, spokesperson for MÉS por Palma, who believes that the PP "opens the door to speculation."

Until now, this site has housed a unique and representative traditional house, protected by the Detailed Development Plan (DDP). A DDP that had been approved during the last legislative term and was allowed to decline by the People's Party (PP). "It's the same old story: the PP destroys what makes Palma a vibrant city with a soul."

As explained, the POD established environmental protection for both the Son Espanyolet neighborhood and the rest of the traditional neighborhoods. This protection preserved the façade of this building on Triana Street and prevented its demolition.

Under the protectionist regulations approved during the previous term, owners could expand the building, but they had to maintain its traditional facade. "The work was done. All that was needed was to maintain and improve it. Instead, the People's Party (PP) has preferred to start a clean slate and open the door to speculation," Truyol stated.

MÁS por Palma directly points the finger at Mayor Martínez and Councilor Fidalgo as responsible for this "destructive policy." "The Son Espanyolet case is not isolated. The same thing has happened on Calle del 31 de Diciembre, where a rationalist building, a recognized heritage site, is in danger of demolition, as MÁS por Palma has repeatedly denounced. The PP prefers to please developers rather than defend what belongs to everyone," Truyol insisted.
