Environmentalists are calling for the withdrawal of the proposal for priority development zones affecting 40,000 hectares.
The platform ¡Renewables sí pero no así! (Yes, but not like this!) has criticized the prioritization of rural land over urban or industrial land for the installation of photovoltaic panels or wind turbines.

PalmThe platform ¡Renovables sí, pero no así! (Yes, but not like this!) has demanded that the Mallorca Council withdraw its proposal for Priority Development Zones (ZDP) from the amendment to the Island Territorial Plan, as more than 40,000 hectares of the island could be affected by the implementation of renewable energy.
This was stated by the platform's spokesperson, Margalida Rosselló, at a press conference on Friday, pointing out that this zoning has been developed with "profitability" rather than "environmental" criteria. She criticized the fact that rural land has been prioritized for the installation of photovoltaic panels or wind turbines instead of urban or industrial land, which is closer to the areas where this electricity is needed.
They have also warned that the mapping that the organization has developed, based on the information provided by the Council for the creation of the ZDPs, shows that the installation of renewable energy is moving away from tourist areas. "This zoning is disconnected from the tourism sector by sacrificing rural land and leaving Mallorca's coast free for tourists to see," he said.
