Saint JohnThe animals of Sant Joan have an ally in new communication platforms. In the municipality of Pla, the WhatsApp group 'Ayuda animales de Sant Joan' (Help Animals of Sant Joan) has been launched, already boasting over 150 members. The group was created to help lost and found animals in the town. Members can send photos, locations, or any other information that might contribute to improving the animal's well-being. The group's rules guide members on how to act if they find a lost animal. They advise that if they are able to catch the animal, they should call out immediately and are advised to be patient, as its family will often come out.

In this regard, it is emphasized that above all, "we must prevent a found animal from being taken to Natura Parc." Before this happens, "we have to try to find it and locate its family."

It is also reported that the Local Police have a microchip reader. If the animal has this device, as is mandatory, especially for dogs, it is very easy to return it to its family.

If it is not possible to catch the animal, please send its location and a photo to the group.

In this way, the image begins to circulate, the group members act as a megaphone, and, as has already happened, it is very likely that the owners will be located.

In any case, you can also notify the Local Police or call 112 so that important steps can be taken to prevent a possible accident.

The group was created because lost animals, especially dogs, are frequently found. One of the group's administrators explains that people didn't know how to react. "Normally, if you find a dog, you can pick it up, and if you're patient, the owner often turns up."

"Sometimes there have been cats too, and we were even asked for help with a bird once. But, well, most cases, and the main reason the group was created, are dogs," they explain.

Today, the group from San Juan, a town of about 2,300 inhabitants, has already achieved its goal and has numerous success stories in which dogs and cats, but also birds, have been returned to their homes in what they call a 'Happy Ending'.
