PalmThe mayor of Castell, Lluís Camps, has ordered the mandatory evacuation of all homes in the villages of Cala Sant Esteve and El Fonduco due to the confirmed risk of a cliff collapse, the City Council announced on Saturday. Local police have personally informed each affected resident and have cordoned off and erected a barrier to prevent vehicle and pedestrian access to the at-risk areas.

The decision stems from technical reports prepared by municipal services and experts from RiscBal, which confirm a high risk of landslides throughout the area surrounding Cala Sant Esteve, where a 20-ton rock fell onto an inhabited building on January 27, killing one person. Municipal technicians have also warned of a similar risk in certain areas of Fonduco, where landslides have already occurred in recent months, leading to the issuance of several enforcement orders. The City Council has announced that it will continue working in coordination with the Balearic Government and other relevant authorities to jointly assess the necessary measures in each case. The General Directorate of Emergencies, which has collaborated in the intervention from the outset and participated in the coordination meeting convened by the mayor on Friday, reiterated that the safety of these areas is a municipal responsibility.
