A human chain for saying no at the Binissalem industrial estate: "It's the only option we have left."

The demonstration will be on Saturday, September 13, at 10:30 a.m.

Next Saturday at 10:30 a.m. the residents of Binissalem will say "Nor in the macropolygon"With a human chain organized by the Group of Friends in Defense of the Environment (GADMA) together with the GOB and Friends of the Earth. GADMA spokesperson Bernat Fiol points out that, in this way, "the piece of land where they want to carry out this attack for speculation will be seen." "It's the last cartridge we have left. They've been telling us lies for twenty years and each one of them costs us a bit of our future," he adds.

Fiol clarifies that the protesters will not impede traffic, but assures that they will carry banners and streamers "so that those who pass by can see them," with the aim of "raising social awareness." Binissalem "is not going to reconsider anything; it has already more than achieved its objectives." "It presents itself as if it were the publicist for the developer of the industrial estate because it has given it every opportunity. What does the City Council gain when the people lose?" he asks.

For her part, Magdalena Pons, the representative of MÉS for Binissalem, assures that they will continue fighting until the industrial estate is definitively approved—the second phase has been initially approved. She also points out that the industrial estate has not yet gone through environmental procedures and that objections have been made. The eco-sovereignty movement wants to hold a referendum (should be debated at Monday's plenary session at Binissalem City Hall) that is binding under the Balearic Islands Law on Popular Consultations and Participatory Processes. Meanwhile, GADMA is also collecting signatures to request a binding popular consultation.

With this initiative, MÁS for Binissalem aims for the City Council to "rethink" its position on the industrial estate. Meanwhile, Josep Maria Pons, Councilor for Urban Planning for Binissalem City Council, assured ARA Baleares that the City Council "continues with the processing of the plan determined by the experts." He adds that "the industrial estate is not new; it's a partial plan approved in 1998 that is still in force and has every right to urban development."

Pons explains that nearly 30 objections have been submitted, but rules out the possibility of reversing the initiative because the City Council "does not have any substantial report determining that there would be no cost to the City Council if this project were to be rejected." "We cannot force the City Council into debt," he concluded.
