ManacorManacor City Council approved this Monday the update of the fees for civil weddings, both in municipal offices and at the History Museum of the Torre de los Enagistas. This means that from now on, getting married can cost up to 267.37 euros, whether the couple is a resident or not.

This change in wedding ordinances, according to the mayor of Manacor, Miquel Oliver, is motivated primarily "by the work that public officials must do, both administratively, such as going to the courts to obtain paperwork, and by making calls to arrange with witnesses, for example."

The City Council is clear that "it is an update of the prices, as many municipalities in Mallorca have done in recent months. We, however, do not reach the more than 300 euros that some offer. It is not about taking advantage of the situation, but rather establishing order depending on the celebration you want to have."

This change means that, in a few months (those who already have a reserved day and time will continue to pay the previous rates), getting married in Manacor from Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., will cost 98.73 euros at the municipal offices in the city or Portocristo; 144.89 euros in the plenary hall; and 250.04 euros at the History Museum.

While outside of these office hours, that is, Monday to Friday, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the rate will be 267.37 euros.

Reduced price

In this regard, the City Council is also opening the door to the possibility of getting married at a low price. A wedding low cost which have, however, several conditions: they must be on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday and between 12:30 and 2:00 p.m. Or what is the same, neither the first nor the last day of the working week nor in the last hour and a half of work of the officials and councilors, nor will the place be designated from the Court. At the time of the wedding, there may be no more people than the couple and two witnesses, nor musical performances that could unduly lengthen the ceremony. there are six weddings. There are not so many "church weddings" anymore, and ordinary courts do not grant hours from today to tomorrow. Nor do the Justice of the Peace Courts, where weddings can no longer be officiated.

None of the parties that make up the City Council have voted against. abstained, but without making any criticism. As this is an initial approval, a period for objections now opens.

In 2019, Manacor City Council approved the establishment, imposition, and regulation of a new tax ordinance, which established the fees to be paid by couples wishing to marry in the municipality outside of office hours. The amounts ranged from 89 to 129 euros, depending on the location of the wedding.

Thus, it was established that for marriages in the plenary hall or in the offices of regional delegations such as Portocristo, the fee would be 89.41 euros. However, those who opted for venues such as the Torre de los Enagistes, the Casas de Son Talent, the Puig de Alanar rural school, or the Sa Murtera school had to pay 129.56 euros.

The regulations also established that no exceptions or tax benefits would be allowed. However, if the ceremony could not be held, a refund of the fee was allowed, provided the interested parties formally waived it. This ordinance was added to the fee, which had been in place since January 2014 for civil marriages performed during office hours, which was €61.80, to cover administrative and personnel costs.
