PalmThe week has begun with a cut-off low (DANA) that has formed over the western Iberian Peninsula and will bring locally heavy rain to the Mediterranean coast and the Balearic Islands until Wednesday, according to the forecast by Rubén del Campo, spokesperson for the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET). Cloudy and overcast skies are expected on Tuesday, with some locally heavy showers in the western part of the archipelago starting in the morning. These showers could be locally heavy in the Pitiusas Islands (Ibiza and Formentera). Temperatures will remain fairly stable. Winds will be light from the south, shifting to an easterly component in the morning. Parts of the islands were under a yellow weather warning for accumulated rainfall of 20 mm in one hour this Monday. Specifically, the alert was activated in the north and northeast of Mallorca and in Menorca.

Del Campo has announced that this cut-off low (DANA) that has formed in the west of the Iberian Peninsula will destabilize the atmosphere. Rain is expected across large areas of the country, especially in the northwest quadrant and central part of the peninsula. Showers, though more scattered, are also expected in the eastern third of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands. These could be locally heavy, particularly in parts of Catalonia and the archipelago. On Tuesday, the cut-off low will move south across the peninsula. With this situation, the AEMET spokesperson indicated that light rain is expected in the Cantabrian region and heavier rain in the central, eastern, and southern parts of the peninsula, as well as in the islands. Initially, the heaviest and locally heavy rain will be in the east: Castile-La Mancha, the Region of Murcia, the Valencian Community, and the Balearic Islands.
