ManacorThe Illot bridge, which has connected the municipalities of Manacor and Sant Llorenç since the 1989 flash flood (crossing the local stream that ends at Cala Moreia), is now open again. Councilors from both municipalities today marked the end of the controversial renovation, which cost almost half a million euros and was delayed for years. The bridge "has been completely renovated to guarantee its safety, durability, and accessibility," explained Jaume Soler (PP) and Miquel Oliver (Més-Esquerra), the respective mayors of Sant Llorenç.

The bridge had to be completely rebuilt (only the concrete foundations remained of the original) because it had been in an advanced state of disrepair for a decade, which forced its closure and extensive intervention at the start of the last tourist season. The renovation, carried out jointly by both city councils, included the renewal of the metal structure, the replacement of the wooden walkway, the improvement of the safety systems, and the landscaping of the surrounding area. It is an iconic and functional element that strengthens mobility, community life, and cohesion between both sides of the Riuet River.

The total cost of the project was approximately €497,845, shared equally by each city council. "With this inauguration, the bridge is once again fully operational, restoring a vital passage for the daily mobility of residents and visitors, especially during the tourist season."

Joint effort

The mayor of Manacor also emphasized the importance of working together: "This project is an example of how cooperation between administrations yields real and useful results for the public." He also pointed out that "the Riuet bridge is an essential crossing point for Illot, and with this renovation, we guarantee the safety and accessibility of the infrastructure and enhance this public space." This is a final solution to the temporary wooden walkway that had to be placed on the beach sand and which didn't quite work as expected. The mayor of Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, for his part, highlighted during the event that "this renovation was a priority to guarantee the safety and peace of mind of everyone who crosses it every day. I appreciate the institutional collaboration with the Manacor City Council, which has made it possible for the bridge to once again be a public space."
