Members of a clan sentenced to up to five years in prison for attempting to kill another in Palma
The defendants reached a plea agreement with the prosecution on Tuesday, which had initially sought 50-year prison sentences for each of them.
PalmA total of seven members of the so-called 'Sheriff' clan were sentenced on Tuesday to prison terms ranging from six months to five and a half years for attacking members of another clan called the 'Peludos' at their home and attempting to kill some of them. The defendants reached a plea agreement with the prosecution on Tuesday, which had initially sought 50-year prison sentences for each of them on charges of attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms, and threats. Ultimately, only two of the defendants were convicted of attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms, and threats, receiving five and a half years in prison.
The rest accepted sentences ranging from six months to a year and a half for threats, and one of them received an additional year for illegal possession of firearms. The Public Prosecutor's Office, for its part, noted that the convicted individuals had settled their civil liabilities before the trial. The events date back to May 18, 2021, in Palma, when seven members of the 'Sheriff' clan and one other unidentified person went to the home of a rival clan, intending to settle a score. The defendants, who were carrying three firearms and a knife, arrived at the house in a van and, upon arrival, saw several members of the Peludos clan getting out of a car and quickly entering their home. The now-convicted individuals pursued them and fired three shots at the facade of the house, breaking one of its windows. Among those inside the house were a seven-month-old baby and three other minors.
One of the shots passed close to the baby, although it didn't injure anyone, and the defendants fired two more times at a wooden door, wounding one of the Peludos members in the back. Two of the convicted men managed to enter the house and threatened the patriarch of the rival clan with death. Specifically, they threatened to leave Mallorca or they would kill them.
