Orange alert for heat in Mallorca: 39 degrees and maximum fire risk
Aemet activates warnings for high temperature throughout the Archipelago
PalmaThe first heatwave of the week leaves the Balearic Islands under meteorological warnings for extreme temperatures this Monday. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has activated the orange alert in central Mallorca, where temperatures are expected to reach up to 39 degrees, while the rest of the archipelago remains on yellow alert for intense heat.
Specifically, maximums of up to 38°C are forecast for the north, northeast, and south of Mallorca, in addition to 37°C in the Pitiusas. In Menorca, the temperature could climb to 36°C, a situation similar to that predicted in the interior of municipalities such as Felanitx and Manacor.
The territorial center of Aemet in the Balearic Islands has warned that this Monday will be "another of the worst days of this heatwave," with particularly high maximums in the interior of Mallorca and very high values also in the rest of the archipelago, where no island is left out of the situation.
To this extreme heat situation, the risk of forest fire is added, which the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has placed at the maximum level. Mallorca and Menorca are in alert level 4 for fire danger, one of the highest in the surveillance system.
The authorities remind that it is forbidden to carry out fires in forest land or in areas close to forest mass and that authorizations for the use of fire may be suspended at any time, in accordance with current regulations which can be consulted on the website alertafoc.caib.es.
