Pablo Rodríguez, new director of Marilles

PalmaEnvironmental scientist and PhD in Marine Sciences Pablo Rodríguez Ros is the new director of the Marilles Foundation, the entity reported this Friday. The change is part of a strategy to strengthen the management team and the foundation's structure, which also involves a change of functions for the former director, Aniol Esteban, after nine years at the helm of the organization.

From now on, Esteban, a marine biologist and environmental economist, will focus his work on the strategic development of Marilles and fundraising. In this way, the foundation aims to strengthen its management capacity at a time of growth for the entity and, at the same time, consolidate the resources necessary to continue promoting marine conservation in the Balearic Islands.

Rodríguez Ros assumes the directorship after having been responsible for leading the Marine Protected Areas strategy and the 30x30 goals of Marilles in the Mediterranean. His career in the field of marine conservation is complemented by experience in research, institutional advisory, and consulting, as well as in creating links between science, institutions, and society.

Precisely, one of the areas in which he has worked is the transmission of scientific knowledge and the development of evidence-based policies. With this background, Rodríguez Ros faces the new responsibility with the desire to give continuity to the work done by the foundation.

“I take on this challenge with the excitement of seeing that it is a consolidated project, which has an enormous legacy behind it and which has ideas and projects to continue advancing in the mission that brought us into being: to turn the Balearics into a world reference for marine conservation,” the new director noted.

Esteban focuses on strategic development

After nine years directing Marilles, Aniol Esteban is moving on to assume the functions of strategic development and fundraising. The change, according to the foundation, should allow for strengthening the relationship with the people and institutions that collaborate with the entity and with marine conservation.

Esteban has stated he is “very satisfied” with the work done during these nine years and has shown himself convinced that the new stage will allow for establishing “a greater and better relationship with the people and institutions allied with Marilles and marine conservation”.

A marine biologist and environmental economist, Esteban has dedicated a good part of his professional career to working for “the reconciliation between the environment and the economy”.
