Pollença City Council has stepped up its efforts to address the proliferation of uncontrolled anchoring and abandoned boats in Pollença Bay. The Council has promoted the 2nd Bulky Waste Cleanup Day as part of the Pollença Coastline Environmental Awareness and Recovery Project, with the collaboration of Adalmo as the authorized manager and a team of professional divers. During the day, concrete blocks, wheels, chains, and buoys, among other materials, were removed.

According to the municipal report, 68% of the boats with incidents had no registration or identification. This irregular occupation of the public maritime-terrestrial domain, the City Council warns, poses a risk to the safety of navigation and swimmers, in addition to contributing to the pollution of a marine area protected as a Site of Community Interest (SCI).

The City Council reminds that the long waiting list for legal mooring cannot justify maintaining vessels in an illegal situation. "The privilege of a few represents a very high cost for the public," City Council sources point out. The sinking of the ship is a possibility in 2023. Annette Rosenkilde, abandoned in the bay, marked a turning point in the municipality's environmental awareness, explains the City Council.

Currently, there are three unidentified boats, abandoned and partially sunken. The City Council has assumed responsibility for their removal due to the inaction of the owners and other authorities, at an estimated cost of 50,000 euros.

Furthermore, during the second day of cleanup, the Local Police issued five reports for unlawful occupation of public land on Albercuix beach. Those responsible have 48 hours to voluntarily remove the affected items before they are removed ex officio.

The City Council once again calls for the creation of an ecological buoy field and greater involvement from the relevant entities to restore order in the bay. "Our commitment is to the protection of the marine environment and the environmental restoration of the bay," the City Council emphasized, which believes in collaboration between administrations, local entities, and the professional diving sector as key to the regeneration of Pollensa's waters.
