PalmRadio 4 will arrive in the Balearic Islands starting in September. This was confirmed by the Balearic Cultural Organization (OCB) this Friday in a statement, announcing that the reception of this station will be the first concrete implementation of the increase in Catalan-language media to which the Spanish government and the president of the public broadcaster RTVE have committed. The president of the OCB, Antoni Llabrés, praised the willingness and speed with which these issues are being addressed to respond to the organization's demands.

Llabrés noted that the efforts carried out by the OCB have resulted in the necessary political and technical commitments to enable the reception of the new channel 2CAT and the children's channel CLAN in Catalan, from the moment they begin broadcasting in Catalonia. "The commitment is that Catalan will be the default language when there is a dual option on TVE channels and sports broadcasts," they explained.

Recently, the president of the public broadcaster RTVE explained the technical possibilities that would allow the reception of the new channel 2CAT in the Balearic Islands, which would favor an increase in the presence of Catalan on state public broadcasting. José Pablo López openly expressed his support for the channel's production to reach all Catalan-speaking territories and to be supplied with content from the Balearic Islands and Valencia. Currently, negotiations to implement this reception through DTT are in the search phase for the best possible technical solution, and he has not ruled out exploring options through both island and state channels.

For his part, the president of the OCB insists that "to advance toward linguistic normalization, it is necessary for Catalan to be present in all areas, including state public media," and assures that the organization will continue monitoring the steps taken to guarantee the arrival of 2Cat and the expansion of the Balearic Islands. Llabrés recalled the historic work of the OCB, which 40 years ago promoted the reception of radio and television in Catalan by implementing the necessary technical means to enable the Balearic Islands to receive broadcasts from television and radio channels from Catalonia and the Valencian Community, such as TV3, C33, 3/24, and Canal 9.
