Real estate agencies are already renting out apartments by rooms: 800 euros for one of 14 m2 in the center of Palma
An advertisement in the center of Palma offers three rooms of between 9 and 14 square meters and asks for specific professional profiles, without admitting couples
PalmaThe real estate market crisis in the Balearic Islands leaves behind more surprising and unexpected situations every day. Exorbitant prices, offers that were unthinkable years ago, new housing models... The latest of these novelties has been the creation of a new market within the world of real estate agencies: room rentals. Although individuals have been renting out rooms for years to cover costs or to speculate, it now seems that the real estate sector has seen a new opportunity and has joined this market openly and without any scruples.
An example of this is this Fotocasa listing where an apartment in the center of Palma is advertised and the price is broken down by room, not for the entire apartment. In the listing, they explain that the apartment has 6 rooms, but that in a short time they have already rented out three. Even so, they report that they still have three available. One for 800 euros per month, another for 650, and the last one for 680. The most expensive one is a 14-square-meter room with street views. The second is nine square meters and is inside the property, and the third, the 680-euro one, is 10 square meters and faces the back of the building. An extra charge for electricity and water consumption for each tenant must be added to the rental price.
It is an apartment on Costa i Llobera street at the corner of Marquès de Fontsanta street and the ad assures that it is "your opportunity to live in the heart of Palma". They claim it is an apartment (to be shared by at least six people) that is completely new and fully renovated, and that move-in is "immediate". Furthermore, they add that they are looking for "flight crew, civil servants, medical personnel or professionals coming to Mallorca due to a transfer of their workplace, base or hub" and they highlight that "couples are not accepted".
Likewise, they specify that they are looking for people who value a cozy room, living in an apartment where no small detail is missing, and, above all, who "enjoys the experience of living with roommates of the same profile." If you do not meet all the requirements, they already ask that you do not even try.
