The weather in the Balearic Islands

A sweltering and stormy October: The Balearic Islands are experiencing a warmer than normal month with tropical nights and uneven rainfall.

While Lluc received over 140 l/m², rainfall was scarce in the south and west of the Serra, and Ibiza and Formentera experienced a veritable deluge.

PalmOctober 2025 was warmer than average in the Balearic Islands, according to the Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET). In Mallorca, the average temperature was 19.4 °C, almost a degree above normal, and up to 11 tropical nights were recorded in Capdepera, more than usual. Despite the persistent heat, the month was normal in terms of rainfall, with an average of 71 liters per square meter, 10% less than expected. The strongest storms arrived with the DANA (isolated high-altitude depression) Alice and Storm Benjamin, which brought torrential rain to the north of the island and wind gusts of over 100 km/h in the Sierra de Alfabia mountain range.

The contrast was stark: while Lluc received over 140 l/m², rainfall was scarce in the south and west of the Sierra. In contrast, Ibiza and Formentera experienced a veritable deluge, with up to three times the normal amount of rain (174.4 l/m² were recorded, compared to the normal 60 l/m²).

The highest daily rainfall totals in the Pitiusas Islands occurred on October 11th and They are associated with the scenario of Tropical Storm Alice.That day, rainfall reached 89.4 l/m² at Ibiza Airport and 78.8 l/m² in Formentera (a record daily rainfall amount based on data from 2015).

Temperatures in Mallorca, Menorca, and Ibiza

The average temperatures and anomalies were respectively: in Mallorca, 19.4 °C and 0.8 °C; in Menorca, 19.8 °C and 0.4 °C; in Ibiza, 20.3 °C and 1 °C; and in Formentera, 21.5 °C and 0.8 °C. The highest temperatures of the month were as follows: in Mallorca, 31.2 °C at the Capdepera lighthouse on October 23; in Menorca, 28.2 °C at La Mola on October 4; in Ibiza, 29.8 °C in Ibiza and 27.7 °C in Formentera, both on October 25. The highest minimum temperatures of the month were: in Mallorca, 22.5 °C in Campos on October 22; and in Menorca, 21 °C at La Mola on October 13. In Ibiza, the temperature reached 23°C, and in Formentera, 22°C, both on October 22nd.

The Capdepera station experienced 11 tropical nights (when the average is eight); Porto Pi had five (when the average is three); and Formentera had nine (when the average is four).
