The bust of Aurora Picornell is attacked for the second time in a month
Podemos has expressed its strong condemnation of what it considers a "new fascist attack".
PalmThe bust honoring Aurora Picornell, located on the Paseo del Molinar, has been vandalized again. This is the second time in less than a month that the statue has been defaced with graffiti, after it was found painted with swastikas and Nazi symbols on October 20th.
This Monday, a statue appeared with what appeared to be blows to the face and other parts of the torso, as well as stains seemingly caused by some type of solvent. Podemos has expressed its strong condemnation of what it considers a "new fascist attack" and "an attempt to erase the memory of those executed by fascism." The party also maintained that this was not a "coincidental" act and placed the responsibility on the government led by Marga Prohens, which it accused of being "at the service of reactionary forces" and acting "against democratic memory." "These are not isolated incidents; they add to the fascist attacks that have occurred throughout Palma in recent weeks, such as the graffiti that appeared on the Génova road and the racist billboards promoted by Vox," the party stated. All of this, Podemos asserted, "creates a scenario of growing impunity that normalizes hate speech and acts in the public sphere." The party has demanded the "immediate repair" of the bust, the adoption of measures to protect memorial sites and symbols, and the condemnation of the "attack" by Prohens and the mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez.
