Doctors' strike forces the rescheduling of 62,883 healthcare procedures since February
This week the IB-Salut has suspended 11,039 appointments, the vast majority in Mallorca
PalmThe IB-Salut has had to suspend a total of 11,039 healthcare procedures this week due to the strike by medical staff against the reform of the framework statute for statutory health service personnel proposed by the Ministry of Health. The Administration has assured that it will reschedule all canceled activity to minimize the impact on users. The strike, which has now been ongoing for twenty days, has had a considerable cumulative impact: during this period, 62,883 medical procedures have had to be rescheduled throughout the archipelago.
According to data provided by Health, the strikes have forced the cancellation of 285 surgical interventions, 6,782 hospital consultations and diagnostic tests —including radiological ones— and 3,972 primary care consultations. By islands, Mallorca concentrates the majority of suspensions, with 226 operations, 5,886 hospital consultations and tests, and 3,133 primary care visits postponed. In Menorca, 18 interventions, 423 hospital consultations and 35 primary care consultations have been suspended. As for the Pitiusas, 41 operations, 473 hospital consultations and tests, and 804 visits to health centers have been canceled.
Progressive rescheduling
The Health Service has indicated that the rescheduling will be done progressively based on the availability of services and professionals, with the aim of recovering activity as soon as possible. Even so, the organization admits that this situation will cause a slight increase in waiting lists, both for surgical interventions and for consultations and diagnostic tests.
