The Government begins to plan where, how and in what way it wants renewable energy in the Balearic Islands.
The initiative halts the processing of photovoltaic parks through strategic industrial projects and declaration of public utility.

The Government is beginning to promote the project that "will define where, how, and how the future of renewable energy will be developed in the Balearic Islands," according to the Regional Minister of Business, Employment, and Energy, Alejandro Sáenz de San Pedro. The Renewable Energy Acceleration Zones in the Balearic Islands (ZARIB) are included in the decree law of urgent measures to accelerate strategic projects, which was approved last Friday by the Governing Council.
This initiative, as explained by Sáenz de San Pedro, involves "the planning and regulation of the implementation of renewable energy from photovoltaic parks throughout the territory." This is "a vitally important measure for the development and promotion of the economic transformation of the Islands," he stated.
The entry into force of this initiative, linked to the validation of the decree law in the Parliament, and which would occur within a period of 30 days, leaves open the processing of new photovoltaic parks through the declaration of general interest, as specified by Sáenz de San Pedro, "therefore, it does not imply the suspension of new procedures, but rather a general one." However, the decree law paralyzes the processing of photovoltaic parks that are done through the declaration of general interest. strategic industrial projects or through the declaration of public utility.
In fact, the decree-law suspends both of these options. Once the decree-law is approved, the regulations will be developed and the parameters and characteristics that must be met for application on both land and roof will be defined, "listening to and giving voice to town councils, citizens, associations, and civil society," explained the director general, Diego Viu, "and with an eye toward simplification."
The project foresees the creation, by the Government, of maps with detailed information by municipality on which are the protected areas and, therefore, excluded from the installation of photovoltaic parks and the definition of the distribution and compensation mechanisms, "so that each town council can work with a viable subdivision and with the."
