AndratxThe situation of moorings in Port d’Andratx has set off alarms among entities linked to the maritime world. ADN Mediterrani and the Associació d’Amarristes d’Andratx have decided to join forces to demand a solution for the nearly one hundred owners of small boats affected by the changes derived from the new port management.

As they report, many users who until now were considered base moorers have come to be treated as transients, a fact that implies a very significant increase in fees. Some affected individuals claim to have gone from paying less than 200 euros per month to receiving proposals exceeding 1,000 euros, a situation they consider unaffordable for many families traditionally linked to the port.

The conflict arises after a Supreme Court ruling that has modified the scenario for the concession of moorings. Following this, the two entities are demanding an urgent response from PortsIB and are asking for the social and traditional character of local boating to be taken into account.

The president of the Associació d’Amarristes d’Andratx, Toni Oliver, explains that they have already presented different proposals to the administration to try to provide a temporary solution to the situation while the pending breakwaters are being tendered.

For its part, the president of ADN Mediterrani, Lorenzo Pons, believes that what is happening in Andratx is another example of the growing difficulty for local citizens to maintain access to the ports of the Illes. As he warns, the progressive loss of spaces linked to social boating could end up turning ports into areas reserved only for large vessels and users with high purchasing power.

The entities insist that this is not solely an economic issue, but also about preserving a part of Mallorca's maritime identity. Therefore, they call for administrations to study formulas to ensure that social and traditional uses continue to have a place within the ports of the Balearic Islands.
