The platform defending the bellasombras will denounce Cort's "manipulations".
The association will also announce the next steps they will take against the City Council.
PalmThe Platform in Defense of the Bellasombra Trees, made up of various neighborhood associations and environmental groups, will denounce the Palma City Council's "manipulations" regarding the felling of 18 trees in Llorenç Villalonga Square. They will do so at a press conference to be held next Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Can Alcover, the platform announced in a statement. The purpose of the event is to publicly denounce the "manipulations" contained in the press conference held by the Palma City Council to explain the reasons for the tree removal, the "complete lack" of genuine citizen participation, and the "serious irregularities" in the announced participatory processes.
They will also raise the issue of the "lack of transparency" of the Palma City Council (Cort), which they accuse of not providing certain reports that would support the action, and the "unjustified haste" in carrying out the felling and replacement of the bellasombra trees.
Furthermore, they will announce the next steps they will take against the City Council. The platform is made up of the residents' associations of Calatrava, Canamunt, La Lonja and El Born, Banco de s'Oli and Plaça de la Mercè, and the Federation of Residents' Associations of Palma.
Also included are the organizations Palma XXI, GOB, and Amics de la Terra. The felling, carried out last December, has been criticized by these associations, who believe there are no "conclusive" reports to support the felling of the trees "neither regarding the diagnosis nor the proposals put forward."
