PalmaThe Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal on points of law filed by the Bishopric of Mallorca against the ruling that recognized the Hieronymite nuns of the Monastery of Santa Isabel in Palma as owners of the property. Thus, the high court considers the decision issued by the Provincial Court of Palma in May 2024 to be final.

Thus, the Supreme Court declares the appealed sentence final, imposes costs on the Bishopric of Mallorca, and recalls the loss of the deposit constituted for the appeal, the Federation of Monasteries of Hieronymite Nuns of Santa Paula has specified.

The resolution confirms the pronouncement of the Provincial Court regarding the lawsuit filed by the religious community and determined that the nuns are the legitimate owners of the monastery of Santa Isabel, which they have occupied and managed since 1485. It also upholds the cancellation of the registry entry derived from the registration promoted by the then Bishop of Mallorca, Javier Salinas.

The president of the federation and prioress of the monastery, Ángeles Sanz, has expressed her satisfaction with a decision that, as she said, puts an end to a controversy initiated in 2014 and subsequently maintained by the current Bishop, Sebastià Taltavull. The nun is confident that this judicial ruling will definitively close a conflict that has pitted the community against the diocese for more than a decade.
