PalmThe woman accused of the deadly fire in Les Països (Ibiza), in which an elderly man lost his life, has denied that she approached the home of the victim, her partner's father, in the early hours of August 3, 2023, and set it on fire. The jury trial enters its final stage this Monday with the defendant's testimony, for whom the prosecution is seeking a life sentence with the possibility of parole, and the reading of the parties' reports. The woman only answered questions posed by her lawyer, Cándido Valladolid, and denied all the accusations against her. However, she did acknowledge leaving her home that night at 1:05 a.m., but denied going to the victim's house.

According to her testimony, it was common for her to go for walks at this time of day because she felt safer after surviving an attempted hit-and-run by her ex-partner. The accused recognized herself in the security camera footage from the area, but, according to her version of events, she never went to the residence where the incident occurred; instead, she went to the bus station. The accused denied that the victim's daughters tried to force her out of the house, that she asked the family for money to support the couple, and that she appointed herself head of the family when her partner, the son of the deceased elderly man, attempted suicide a few days before the events in question.

The house keys

In response to her lawyer, the woman stated that she couldn't understand why, as soon as the facts came to light, one of the victim's daughters directly accused her. "It seems she didn't like me because I was dating her brother," she replied. The woman also asserted that she didn't have keys to the house because she always went there with her partner or accompanied the victim's wife to walk a dog.

Jury trial

She is charged with murder and arson, and the prosecution is seeking a life sentence with the possibility of parole. According to the prosecution, one of the elderly people was completely dependent at the time of the fire, unable to escape the building, and died.
