The workers of Sóller 2010 concentrate to claim the unblocking of the agreement and avoid the indefinite strike
The union denounces that the conflict does not respond to economic reasons, demands to maintain the remuneration of holidays and requires a heat protocol before the mediation meeting scheduled for this Monday
PalmaDozens of workers from the public company Sóller 2010 have gathered this Saturday in the Plaça de Sóller to demand that the City Council unblock collective bargaining and avoid the indefinite strike called for this Monday.
According to UGT, the main stumbling block in the negotiations is the reduction in pay for worked public holidays. The staff demands that these days continue to be paid as they have been "uninterruptedly for over a decade" and assures that maintaining these conditions would only cost the company €25,000 annually.
The works committee therefore considers that the conflict "is not a budgetary problem," but "of pure stubbornness and pride" on the part of both Sóller 2010 management and political leaders. "It is not an economic problem. The workers firmly believe that the service is intended to be deteriorated at an accelerated pace in order to have the perfect excuse and justify its privatization," they have warned.
Added to the salary demands is the request for a specific protocol for heatwaves. Workers' representatives denounce that management refuses to accept measures that clearly establish the protections that must be applied in situations of orange or red alert, a situation that, they assure, puts the health of employees who work outdoors, such as ORA operators, at risk.
The committee also criticized that the company denied permission for workers on duty to attend the rally during their snack break, a decision that, in their opinion, contradicts the discourse of dialogue that management publicly defends.
Given the deadlock in negotiations, the General Directorate of Labour has called a mediation meeting for this Monday at 9:00 AM between the company and the committee with the aim of trying to unblock the conflict and prevent the start of the indefinite strike.
