This is how the official portraits of the democratic mayors of Palma are

PalmaThe Palma City Council has inaugurated at Bellver Castle the Gallery of Portraits of the mayors who, over the course of the successive legislative terms, initiated following the 1979 electoral call, have held the presidency of the municipal Corporation.The gallery brings together the portraits of Ramon Aguiló Munar, mayor between 1979 and 1991; Joan Fageda Aubert, mayor between 1991 and 2003; Catalina Cirer Adrover, mayor between 2003 and 2007; Aina Calvo Sastre, mayor between 2007 and 2011; Mateu Isern Estela, mayor between 2011 and 2015; José Hila Vargas, mayor between 2015 and 2017 and between 2019 and 2023; and Antoni Noguera Ortega, mayor between 2017 and 2019.

Six artists linked to Mallorca have participated in the creation of the Portrait Gallery. The portrait of Ramon Aguiló was made by Maria Mercedes Laguens García, a graduate in Fine Arts with an extensive career in the fields of painting, engraving, and woodcut. Her work is part of public collections such as those of the Reina Sofía National Museum Art Center and the Fundació Miró Mallorca.The portrait of Joan Fageda is the work of Pascual de Cabo Díaz, trained at the School of Arts and Crafts of Valencia. Tomàs Pizá García, a graduate in Fine Arts and Architecture, has painted the portraits of Catalina Cirer and Antoni Noguera.

The portrait of Aina Calvo was made by Pep Girbent, born in Sóller and trained in Fine Arts in Barcelona and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig.Ángeles Cereceda Martínez, trained at the School of Painting of the Escola Lliure del Mediterrani, is the author of the portrait of Mateu Isern. Belén Escutia Llambias, a versatile artist linked to design, portraiture, engraving, and contemporary painting, has created the portrait of José Hila.

The event was presided over by the mayor, Jaime Martínez Llabrés, accompanied by members of the municipal Corporation, a large part of the honored mayors –Aina Calvo was unable to attend; the president of the Government, Marga Prohens; the president of the Parliament, Gabriel Le Senne, the president of the Council of Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, as well as representatives of different institutions and civil society of the Balearic Islands, among other authorities.

The ceremony, presented by the journalist Cristina Roig, featured the participation of the Tamborers de la Sala, the Grand Gala Police, the mace-bearers and the Palma Municipal Band, which, once the event concluded, performed a short version of the Balanguera and the national anthem.
