Woman dies in fire at her home in Vilafranca
Ambulances, firefighters and security personnel were dispatched to the scene
PalmAn 80-year-old woman died early Friday morning in a fire caused by a brazier in her home in Vilafranca de Bonany. According to the SAMU (Emergency Medical Service), the incident occurred shortly after 5:09 a.m. when a woman was reported trapped by a fire in her home on Amargura Street in the town of Pla de Mallorca.
Firefighters from Mallorca responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. The Civil Guard and two ambulances from the 061 emergency service also arrived, one basic life support and one advanced life support. Medical personnel could only confirm the death of the elderly woman. All indications point to the fire having been caused by an electric heater, and the woman having died from smoke inhalation. She was in the care of a caregiver who was unharmed. According to ARA Baleares, the woman is Francisca Gili, a native of Capdepera and the widow of Civil Guard officer Florentino Manzano, who was stationed in Vilafranca. They married and had a son. Today, the municipal architect will inspect the house to assess the structural damage and determine if the building needs to be sealed off.
