ManacorThe Criminal Court number 4 of Palma issued a sentence this week in a case of assault that took place at Manacor Hospital almost a year ago, in December 2024. The judge accepted the final conclusions of the Public Prosecutor's Office and sentenced a patient to six months in prison and a fine for repeatedly assaulting a nursing assistant while she was performing her duties. The events (which initially went through the Court of Instruction number 3 of Manacor) date back to Saint Stephen's Day last year, when, at 8:30 a.m., a patient who had just been discharged and was leaving consultation room number 5 of the Psychiatry department was waiting for some orderlies to take her home. Impatient with the wait, the woman went to consultation room number 6 of the Traumatology department to ask if the orderlies would be arriving much soon.

She was attended to by a uniformed professional who was working as a nursing assistant at the time, who replied that she did not know how long she should expect to wait. At that moment, and according to the court ruling, after this response, the accused, "in an extremely aggressive and agitated manner, began to berate her, and then started recording her repeatedly with her mobile phone."

The last video was directed at the assistant's face, who reprimanded her for her actions, with the explicit warning that she could not record either the center's staff or anyone inside the hospital facilities. Then the woman "grabbed her hair tightly and forced her to bend over, while repeatedly hitting her on the head and back with her hand, while shouting 'bad whore, bad whore,' until she was assisted by her coworkers and security personnel, who managed to stop her from continuing."

Six months

The court sentenced the woman, as the criminally responsible perpetrator of an attack against personnel in the performance of their duties, to a six-month prison term, with disqualification from holding public office for the duration of her sentence. She was also sentenced to a two-month fine for a minor assault, with a daily payment of five euros. In addition, she must pay court costs. Regarding civil liability, she must compensate the officer with 376.20 euros, plus interest. The court stipulated that for every two unpaid installments, she will be sentenced to one day of probation. Furthermore, the sentence also mentions that the defendant "had partially impaired cognitive abilities as a result of the borderline personality disorder from which she suffers."
