PalmThe Civil Guard is investigating a 21-year-old woman for driving at over 180 km/h on a section of the highway between Palma and Alcúdia with an 80 km/h speed limit. In a press release, the Civil Guard reported that the Traffic Group in the Balearic Islands is investigating a young driver as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against road safety, for driving at more than twice the speed limit on a section of the Ma-13 highway where the maximum speed limit is 80 km/h. The incident occurred on Tuesday, December 9, when the driver of a sports car, traveling on the Ma-13 highway at kilometer 39.400 towards Alcúdia, was caught by a radar vehicle in the section where the Civil Guard patrols the 80 km/h zone.

For this reason, the young woman was investigated for a traffic offense, as stipulated in Article 379.1 of the Penal Code, which can carry prison sentences of three to six months, a fine of six to twelve months, community service of 30 to 90 days, and license suspension. The Civil Guard reiterated that this type of behavior seriously endangers not only the offender but also other road users, and stressed the importance of respecting speed limits; they also emphasized that excessive speed is one of the main contributing factors to road accidents.
