11 concerts with international artists focus the 2026-27 season of the Symphony Orchestra

The season will begin on October 8 with cellist Kian Soltani, who will perform Edward Elgar's 'Cello Concerto' and 'Thus Spoke Zarathustra'

PalmaThe Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra (OSIB) has presented its 2026-2027 subscription season with a total of 11 concerts at the Palma Auditorium, from October 8 to May 6, all at 8:00 PM, featuring prominent international performers and conductors. In a statement released this Thursday, the Government detailed that it is an artistic proposal of the highest excellence that will bring together some of the most outstanding performers and conductors on the international scene in Palma.

The OSIB anticipates an ambitious, diverse, and exciting program that combines the great works of the universal repertoire with premieres and the presence of world-renowned soloists. The season will begin on October 8 with the prestigious cellist Kian Soltani, who will perform the "Cello Concerto by Edward Elgar, along with the monumental work Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Richard Strauss. The last concert will be on May 6, 2027 with one of the best flutists, Emmanuel Pahud.

The program will be made up of'Andante for flute and orchestra 'by Mozart, the Flute Concerto No. 2 of Guinovar and the Symphony No. 2 by Brahms, all conducted by the principal conductor Pablo Mielgo. There will be emblematic works such as the Concert of Aranjuez of Rodrigo, Romeo and Juliet of Prokofiev, the Piano concerto for the left hand of Ravel, the Piano Concerto No. 1 of Prokofiev', the Symphony No. 4 of Mahler, the Symphony No. 2 'Little Russia' by Tchaikovsky and Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov, among other fundamental scores by Beethoven, Brahms, Sibelius, Ravel, Prokofiev and Mozart.

A succession of performances is also expected, featuring artists of the caliber of guitarist José María Gallardo del Rey, trombonist Ian Bousfield, pianists Juan Floristan, Andrei Gavrilov, and Eva Gevorgyan, violinists Ellinor De Melon and Sayaka Shoji, and the Majorcan soprano Marta Bauzà.

Among the season's highlights are The Creation of Joseph Haydn, one of the great masterpieces of the choral-symphonic repertoire, with the participation of the Majorcan soprano Irene Mas, the baritone José Antonio López, the tenor David Alegret and the Choir of the University of the Balearic Islands.

The season also incorporates a strong commitment to talent linked to the Balearic Islands, with the presence of composers such as Gabriel Estarellas with the work "The island of the fairies.

In addition to the principal conductor Pablo Mielgo, outstanding guest conductors such as Gianna Fratta, Guillermo García Calvo, Lorenzo Passerini, and Michal Nesterowicz will participate.
