PalmaThe Lul·lià General Study has opened a new call for an artistic creation scholarship endowed with 4,000 euros to promote projects linked to the popular culture of the Balearic Islands. The initiative is aimed at artists over 18 years of age, without restrictions on discipline, with the aim of fostering new creative perspectives based on the cultural heritage of the Islands.

As reported by the entity, the objective is to promote contemporary works that take as a starting point traditions, rituals, techniques, objects, and other expressions of Balearic popular culture, while contributing to their dissemination and preservation.

The call is born in a context of social transformation marked by phenomena such as globalization, tourism, and changes in consumption habits, factors that, according to the Lul·lià General Study, have put at risk certain cultural manifestations that could be relegated or even disappear.

In this regard, the institution emphasizes that the scholarship is part of the recommendations of UNESCO to guarantee the transmission and safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage between generations.

The projects submitted must demonstrate a clear link with the popular culture of the Balearic Islands and include a theoretical reflection on the cultural element that inspires the artistic proposal.

The scholarship, sponsored by the Baltasar Coll Foundation, will keep the reception of candidacies open until July 5. A committee composed of three specialists in the fields of arts, humanities, and popular culture will be responsible for evaluating the proposals.

The selected artist will have two months to develop an original work and may also opt for an artistic residency at the Lul·lià General Study to carry out the creative process.

According to the entity, the call is also inspired by the artistic conception of Joan Miró, who advocated for contact with popular traditions as a constant source of artistic renewal and experimentation.
