The Official Association of Architects of the Balearic Islands (COAIB) has presented the new 2026 Cinema and Architecture Cycle: 'The Invisible Measure', a cultural initiative that aims to use cinema as a tool to reflect on architecture, the city, and ways of inhabiting.

This first edition features three sessions, articulated around three central concepts of the architectural discipline: the measure of commitment, the gaze, and authorship.

The cycle will kick off on Wednesday, October 7th, with the screening of L'Arquitecte / The Great Arch, directed by Stéphane Demoustier, in the courtyard of the COAIB headquarters as part of the 'COAIB a la fresca' program. The film addresses the distance between an architectural idea and its materialization, and raises the challenges a project faces when it comes into contact with constructive, administrative, and social reality.

The second session will take place on Wednesday, October 29th, at the Teatre Principal in Inca with the screening of Columbus, directed by Kogonada. The film reflects on the birth of the architectural gaze and on how sensitivity towards spaces, buildings, and the environment can become a professional vocation.

The cycle will continue on Friday, November 20th, at the Toni Catany Foundation in Llucmajor with E.1027 – Eileen Gray and the House by the Sea, a docufiction directed by Beatrice Minger and Christoph Schaub that recovers the story of the architect and designer Eileen Gray and her iconic Mediterranean house E.1027.

Each screening will be followed by a conversation led by Joan Carles Martorell, with the participation of architects such as Carme Pinós, Pep Ripoll, and Juan Miguel Tizón, as well as professionals from other fields.

The cycle is promoted by the COAIB with the collaboration of the Teatre Principal in Inca, the ACIC (Association of Friends of Cinema of Inca and Region), and the Toni Catany Foundation – International Center of Photography.

The cycle coordinator Joan Carles Martorell explained that the initiative "allows us to recover three authentic cinematic gems that have had very limited distribution in our country." "Being able to see them again on the big screen and, furthermore, completing each screening with an open conversation with the public is a very special opportunity," he said.

For her part, Elisabet Colom, representing the COAIB, highlighted that "this cycle reinforces the role of the Association as a space open to culture and debate, capable of bringing architecture closer to society through new languages and new perspectives".
