'Live Culture' premieres 36 new activities to bring the heritage of the Balearic Islands closer to students
The Education program mobilized more than 56,000 students from 309 centers during the past academic year
PalmaThe ‘Viu la Cultura’ program will incorporate 36 new activities in the 2026-2027 academic year with the aim of bringing the heritage, history, and culture of the Archipelago closer to students from the Balearic Islands. The new offer includes visits, workshops, and educational activities related to folk tales, archaeological sites, historical memory, and literature. Among the new proposals are The mystery of the lost folk tales, a visit to the Son Espases sites, an activity on the air-raid shelters of Palma, Pioneer and brave students, Joan Alcover in the Serra, and Filasons.
The Ministry of Education has expanded the program through new collaborations with more than a dozen entities, museums, and institutions from the Balearic Islands, which will provide spaces and resources to carry out the activities. ‘Viu la Cultura’ is aimed at publicly funded educational centers and offers activities for students of all stages. The proposal aims for students to learn about the culture of the Balearic Islands beyond the content worked on in the classroom, through visits and direct experiences with heritage.
Increasing trend
The response from schools has been increasing. During the 2025-2026 academic year, 309 educational centers requested 984 activities, in which 56,508 students from the Balearic Islands participated. With the new additions, the Ministry wants to strengthen a program that it presents as one of the main ways to facilitate students' contact with the cultural heritage of Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera and to promote learning outside the classroom.
