The recent days of heavy rain in the Balearic Islands have caused damage to some educational infrastructure. The CEIP Sa Marina school in Llucmajor informed families on Tuesday that, due to leaks detected in the Early Childhood Education classrooms, some areas had to be closed. According to the school administration, "the accumulation of rain over several days has caused flooding in various classrooms and damaged the ceilings in some areas. These leaks have been present for many years, and the school has issued numerous warnings and communications over time. As a result of these incidents, inspections have been carried out to address the problems." The Education Department is taking charge.

The school also sent videos to the Regional Ministry of Education for technical analysis. "They have assured us that the current situation does not pose a risk of collapse," school officials informed families. This Wednesday, technicians from the Regional Ministry visited the facilities to assess the damage and plan repairs as quickly as possible. Sources from the Regional Ministry of Education reiterate that school maintenance is the responsibility of the municipalities, although in this case they intervened to expedite the resolution of the problems.

A similar situation has occurred at the CEIP Ses Quarterades school in Calvià, a large and iconic but aging school. According to the PSIB party in Calvià, the municipal government (a coalition of the PP and Vox parties) had promised to carry out renovations in 2025, but the rains have highlighted the delays in the work.
