PalmThe Knowledge Transfer Office (KTO) of the Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB) managed 10,129,062 euros in 2025 for research and innovation, providing 3.6% more funds than the previous year. “The evolution of the UIB's transfer office is very positive: we are obtaining more resources, signing more contracts, and developing more projects”, summarized this Tuesday at a press conference the vice-rector for Innovation and Digital Transformation of the university, Lorenza Carrasco, who gave as an example of this commitment that the office has gone from having five people to twelve.

The UIB signed 166 research, development, and innovation contracts last year, of which 96 were with the private sector, for an amount of 1,750,874 euros, representing an increase of 62% compared to 2024, detailed the director of the KTO, Lorena Vela. In the public sector - contracts and management assignments from public administrations - they amounted to 7,099,520 euros, a figure that represents a decrease of 11.5%.

The results of the commercialization of licenses, such as patents and other protection figures, remain stable, with 114,693 euros in income. There are 72 active families of patents and utility models developed by the UIB, encompassing 402 industrial property titles in different countries.
