PalmThe Manacor City Council decreed on Tuesday the immediate evacuation of a building located right next to Plaza de la Bassa, in the heart of the city, due to the imminent risk of structural collapse. The building, three stories high, is currently uninhabited precisely because of these problems. However, the ground floor is occupied by two restaurants: an Argentinian fast-food establishment and a Chinese restaurant.

The greatest risk is from the roof area, according to the City Council.

The building, located at 7 Alexandre Rosselló Street, is of particular concern due to the state of its roof, "which could endanger people's safety," according to the City Council, which has also warned that the evacuation must be effective and ongoing "until the owners of this building take the necessary measures to reinforce the entire structure." The decision was made following municipal technical reports from the Urban Planning Department, which warn of the building's poor state of repair and the real danger of collapse and structural failure. Serious deficiencies and fines

According to a municipal urban planning report issued in March 2026, the building presents serious deficiencies in the roof and cornice, with a risk of collapse that would also affect the lower floors, including the two commercial premises located on the ground floor, which are currently operating and very busy. In light of this situation, the City Council has ordered the owners to implement precautionary measures within a maximum of two days. Furthermore, they will have to carry out structural reinforcement work on the entire building to assess the impact on the ground-floor premises, with the aim of facilitating their relocation as soon as possible. The City Council reminds all owners that they have a legal duty to maintain their properties and that, in case of non-compliance, it may impose repeated coercive fines until the required actions are carried out.
