PalmManacor City Council received the keys this Friday to what will be the first municipally owned protected housing. The Mayor of Manacor, Miquel Oliver, and the Delegate for Urban Planning, Núria Hinojosa, collected the keys from Miguel Villavecchia, sole administrator of MVS Spain Investments SL, the developer of the project located at 5-7 Severo Ochoa Street.
The home has a constructed area of 68.55 m² and a usable area of 61 m². This apartment will become part of the municipal protected housing stock, which the City Council will allocate for social purposes, in accordance with the needs determined by the Department of Social Services.
The delivery is part of the agreement signed in March 2023 between the Manacor City Council and MVS Spain Investments SL to implement the Decree Law on urgent housing measures, promoted by the Government. Thanks to this regime, it has been possible to reactivate an unfinished building, initially built in 2007 and paralyzed. nine public housing units (three on the first floor, one of which is accessible, three on the second floor and three more on the third), as well as ten parking spaces – one accessible –, nine storage rooms in the basement and a commercial premises on the ground floor
response to the need for protected housing in the municipality and we recover unfinished buildings that visually dirty the urban environment." Likewise, the mayor explained that "now it is time to turn this apartment into a home" and that is why they will work with the Deixalles Foundation, with the aim of furnishing it and adapting it to the needs of the families who have left their family. Villavecchia thanked the City Council "for its collaboration in making this protected housing project possible in Manacor and the Balearic Islands, an initiative that benefits all parties and contributes to tackling the housing crisis." The Delegate for Urban Planning, Núria Hinojosa, highlighted "the joy that this great milestone represents, which represents the goal."
However, Manacor City Council regrets that the regulations that supported these projects are no longer applicable, which will make it impossible to promote more initiatives of this type in the future, which are so beneficial to citizens, since the current regulations no longer include the obligation to compensate for excess ed.
This is the second project to be processed in Manacor within the framework of the aforementioned decree law.
