The government will give tax incentives to landlords in exchange for not raising rents.
Prohens admits concern about the possibility of another price increase
PalmThe Catalan government announced a new initiative on Tuesday to try to halt the rise in rental prices. Housing Minister José Luis Mateo explained in Parliament that the government will offer tax breaks to landlords who renew rental contracts in 2026 without raising rents.
Mateo has assured that the Housing Ministry is "preparing a new tax deduction to incentivize landlords not to raise prices" in response to two parliamentary questions from Socialist deputies Pilar Costa and Mercedes Garrido, who requested measures to help the nearly 24,500 tenants in the Balearic Islands who will have to renew their leases next year and will face a rent increase of 4,615 euros. Meanwhile, the President of the Balearic Government, Marga Prohens, has expressed concern about the possibility that many of these contracts will not be renewed, which will lead to higher prices. However, she pointed to the Spanish government as responsible for the situation. "The rental contracts that the PSOE and Sumar have decided not to extend automatically are a cause for concern for this Government," she said.
