The Aemet forecasts temperatures above 36 degrees in the Balearic Islands, tropical nights and suspended dust
PalmaThis year's summer officially began this Sunday at 10:24 AM and it does so with the first heatwave of the season. The entry of warm air from the south will raise temperatures generally across a large part of the State, with maximums that could reach 40 degrees in some parts of the Peninsula.
In the Balearic Islands, Aemet forecasts temperatures above what is usual for this time of year, with maximums that could exceed 36 degrees in parts of the Archipelago. The heat will also be noticeable during the night, with minimums above 20 degrees and possible tropical nights. In addition, there will be suspended dust.
The start of the season will be marked by extreme heat warnings in several communities. The Basque Country will be on red alert, while ten other communities will have orange alerts. There could also be storms during the afternoon in areas of the central and northwestern Peninsula.
Summer will last 93 days and 16 hours and will end on September 23. The astronomical calendar includes two eclipses visible from Spain: a total solar eclipse on August 12 and a partial lunar eclipse on August 28. There will also be the usual meteor showers of the Delta Aquariids, at the end of July, and the Perseids, on August 13.
