PalmThe Vox Palma municipal group issued a statement strongly condemning the fascist graffiti that appeared on Monday on the bust of Aurora Picornell, a journalist and seamstress who was murdered during the Spanish Civil War. "Ideologies and fanaticism do not justify any kind of vandalism," they said.

"We reject any kind of vandalism against sculptures, busts, public facades, and street furniture in general," they stated in the press release. This is the second time the municipal group has publicly condemned these acts. Last October, they also condemned the graffiti that was sprayed on the bust.

"We condemn the vandalism and fanaticism that, unfortunately, we have seen in recent times, whether from one side against the other or vice versa," said Fulgencio Coll, Vox's spokesperson in Palma. "Surely, many of the extremists who commit these acts of vandalism don't know the meaning of the word 'respect.'"

All this while the Speaker of Parliament and provincial leader of Vox, Gabriel Le Senne, is being prosecuted for an alleged hate crime for having torn up a photograph of Aurora Picornell during a parliamentary debate in June 2024. The PSIB's Bureau, for having displayed her image, did so "in the exercise of its functions" and to maintain the neutrality of the institution.

From Parliament, the spokesperson for MÁS per Mallorca, Lluís Apesteguia, also lamented the graffiti this Tuesday. In the government oversight session, he reminded the PP and Vox that these actions occur while these parties are pushing for the repeal of the Historical Memory Law in Parliament. "Today, Nazis vandalized the statue of a woman murdered, raped, and tortured by fascists again, all under a law that you intend to repeal," he lamented.
