PalmaSpain has not managed to complete a legislative term for more than a decade. The end of the two-party system and the fragmentation of Parliament have taken us to the polls six times, including those on November 29th. Two were electoral repetitions due to the impossibility of forming a government, an absurdity because the citizen mandate we received was: vote again because the politicians are not capable of making the numbers add up. Now, Pedro Sánchez, seeing the window of opportunity that opens for him after the failure of the housing decrees and the end of his pact with Junts, throws down the gauntlet once again: always moving forward, even if it seems like political suicide.
The first polls after the mess of the decrees and with Maricarmen, the evicted elderly woman who sparked the wave of citizen protest, now turned into a political asset, confirm a negligible effect of Sánchez's gamble. The hatred that the right has capitalized on against the president, whom it holds responsible for all ills, is far greater than the mobilization of the left with the same message as in 2023: vote or those who cut rights will govern.
The PSOE is pinning its campaign on housing, but its credibility is not very high when it has had years to act and has allowed vulture funds and vacation rentals to run wild. It is true that housing powers are transferred to the autonomous communities, mostly in the hands of the right, but this cannot serve as an excuse for the negligence in areas where the State can indeed impose measures.
The socialists need the parties to their left to organize into a Broad Front and for Gabriel Rufián to lead it. The handicap of a state-level profile is his defense of Catalonia's independence. The right already has its campaign ready, with its media arm at full capacity and with Iker Jiménez talking about paranormal—now political—phenomena in prime time. prime time.
During these years we have learned never to count Sánchez out, but no one should underestimate Feijóo's ability to benefit the left thanks to his more than proven clumsiness. You just have to let him speak. And wait. Vox is right now the Podemos of 2015. Its voters are hungry to sentence, to condemn Sánchez. The right does not propose and will do nothing good for housing; it only demands Sánchez's head, the overthrow of the "son of a bitch," to take what it has always believed belongs to it.
