PalmaAirbnb has removed nearly 8,000 illegal tourist rental listings in Mallorca as a consequence of the agreement that the platform reached with the Consell de Mallorca a year ago. This was explained by the president of the insular institution, Llorenç Galmés, at a press conference to present a tourism management tool. According to Galmés, these listings correspond to a theoretical capacity of 40,000 places, although they could continue to operate through other channels.

In this regard, Galmés has highlighted that the Consell's inspector corps has been reinforced (they have gone from 20 to 26) and also the administrators of complaints, who were three and are now fifteen. Galmés made these statements in the framework of the presentation of the Intelligent Destination Platform (PID), a platform for monitoring tourist flows that has been launched in collaboration with the Spanish government and the town councils.

A "brutal deficit" of inspector personnel

In statements to the media, the island councilor for Tourism, Guillem Ginard, defended that the government team found a "brutal deficit" economically and in terms of personnel to tackle illegal tourist rentals. "Above all, there was a very large imbalance between the inspecting and sanctioning parts," he assured, and he defended that between 2023 and 2024 the number of acts and files in processing increased by more than 300%.
